TV in the Wicklow Mountains

I was driving through the Wicklow Mountains with Eva yesterday and came across this old TV dumed just off the road. The contrast between the TV and the wet, windy heights was mental! Had to stop and take the photo above.

France Photos

I’m back home from France now and as I mentioned I got a Canon EOS 650D before I left. I bought the 18-135mm kit lens but it wasn’t in stock before I left so the Camera Centre kindly let me take an 18-55mm kit which I’ll swap later this week for the 18-135mm. While in France I went out of my way to use the camera and took well upwards of 1200 pictures over the seven days. Obviously I won’t post them all here but there are some I was very happy with.

The first photo is of the pews in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Rodez. The entire region of France was on a pilgrim trail so there were a lot of big, beautiful churches near by. The cathedral in Rodez was particularly impressive. I really liked the look of the row upon row of empty seats. Although there obviously wasn’t a mass on, I felt it was a slight commentary on the state of the church…

This one was taken on the bridge in Espalion, a small town near where we were staying. As we were exploring the bridge it started to rain so Eva started walking back towards the car ahead of me. I had my camera out taking touristy shots and took the opportunity to snap a picture of her walking away. I’m happy with how it turned out!

Eva has a tea addiction. It’s something that we have to face together. Even in high 20 or low 30 degree heat, sitting by the pool, she was rarely without a mug of tea. Proof?

The final photo for this post is another one of Eva’s back. The big advantage my new camera has over my old one is burst mode. We went out for a cycle and I stopped and got Eva to cycle past me. I took 4 or 5 photos as she went by and this one worked out the best!

There’s still 1196 photos that I could post here so there’ll likely be another few up sometime soon.

Je suis en France

I’m in France for a week. Got a new camera, a Canon 650D, before I left. There should be plenty of pictures being taken, some of which I’ll post here. This one is of Eva sitting on the hanging chair out the back garden.

Should be a regular post or two this week as well.

Live Tweeting the Irish Museum of Modern Art

Myself and Eva visited the Irish Museum of Modern Art today. Unfortunately the main building was closed but the grounds were open (and lovely) and one exhibition was on (bonkers). I live tweeted my snide remarks much to Eva’s annoyance and I’ve collected them below.

A few more good photos – the Eva edition

Most of the time when I am out with the DSLR I am also out with my girlfriend Eva so she is often the subject of my photographic assault. She’s already appeared in photos here, here and here, but I thought I’d include three of my favourites, that I haven’t already used, as one post.

The first photo was taken as we climbed up the East Mountain (bit of an exaggerated name) in Howth. I got Eva to scramble on ahead up a reasonably steep and rocky bit. I took photos of her the whole way up and my favourite was this one of her almost just about to crest. I really like how she is walking towards nothing and how little of the frame she, or the land occupies.

This photo was taken at a pond about 200 metres from the house I grew up in. I vaguely remember going there as a kid. The pond itself is fairly stagnant and murky but there’s some lovely greenery around and it’s just off a very quiet road. Eva had wandered round to the other side of the pond and was framed by the two bushes and the overhanging tree. I took at the camera and took a few photos all the while wishing for a telephoto lens! I really like this photo regardless, I think the framing really works and I love how Eva almost blends into the nature in the background.

Eva Across the PondThe final photo was taken at Malahide Castle, in the forest there. We went off the main path and into the trees and I took this reverse-portrait of Eva. I really like this style of photo, my computer has at least four or five variations of this photo on it though I think this is my favourite of them.
