A Portrait of a Stranger

One thing I’ve been meaning to do for a while is to start taking portraits of random, interesting strangers. The other day at the Asgard Exhibition in Collins Barracks I saw this old man there. It was strange to see him there by himself on the opening day; I thought he must have a personal reason for being there. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to start taking portraits of strangers so I asked him if I could take his picture and he acquiesced with a nervous giggle. This is the photo I took. I like it.

I Love Idiots

I love idiots – but a special kind of idiot. I love the sort of idiot who decides cycling around the world, or rowing across the Atlantic, or walking to the South Pole – and back – is a good idea. My twitter feed is full of people updating from random parts of the world where they are doing very silly things. This video tweeted to by one of the aforementioned lunatics is what has kickstarted this post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95lO84NCOOo Charlie is spending four years cycling 40,000 miles.

Why? “Why not”.

I only discovered Charlie’s journey tonight but I’ve already subscribed to his blog. It’s at www.charliewalkerexplore.co.uk. I don’t know what it is about these adventures and the people who go on them that appeals to me. I love my comfort, a nice comfy bed and showering more than once a month. I have no plans to do anything so mental as walk across India or sail around the entire coast of the UK but I am absolutely fascinated by those who do. Here’s one final video for this post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWh62BvgxE0 I’ll post more about these nut-jobs in the next few weeks. In fact, I’ll have something important to post about one of them very soon.

TV in the Wicklow Mountains

I was driving through the Wicklow Mountains with Eva yesterday and came across this old TV dumed just off the road. The contrast between the TV and the wet, windy heights was mental! Had to stop and take the photo above.
